HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Property Owners' Association of Edmonton was incorporated as the Taxpayers' Protective Association of Edmonton under the Companies Act on June 30, 1936. Its objective was to protect the interest of owners of homes and other real property in Edmonton and to secure for them, by any legitimate means, relief from excessive and unjust taxation. It was a non-political organization affiliated with the Canadian Federation of Property Owners' Associations. The name of the association was changed to the Property Owners' Association of Edmonton sometime around 1946.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:The records of the Property Owners' Association of Edmonton were donated to the Provincial Archives of Alberta as part of a larger group of records belonging to Edith Rogers, who had been secretary of the Property Owners' Association of Edmonton. Keith Chisholm, on behalf of Kathleen Redmond, Edith Rogers' cousin, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1986.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of the records of the Property Owners' Association of Edmonton and includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, minutes, cashbook, receipts and disbursements, and membership lists.
