HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Edmonton Lady Zionists was formed in Edmonton, Alberta circa (ca.) 1914 and the membership of the association was comprised of women from the Edmonton Jewish community. The association was involved in raising funds for various local and overseas Jewish organizations and was affiliated with the Hadassah-WIZO Organization of Canada, which was founded in Ottawa in 1917 as a Canadian Zionist women’s organization. On March 8, 1921 the association changed its name to The Edmonton Chapter of Hadassah, and was later known as Edmonton Hadassah-WIZO. The Edmonton Chapter of Hadassah organized and was responsible for the Edmonton Junior Hadassah whose membership was comprised of unmarried women from the Jewish community. |
CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | Mrs. E. Pascoe deposited accession PR1975.0310 in the Provincial Archives of Alberta on behalf of Mr. L. Helm. Mr. Helm’s relationship to the Junior Hadassah is unknown. Mrs. Pascoe donated accession PR1976.0005 in the Archives on behalf of Mrs. H. Sorokin. Mrs. Sorokin’s relationship to The Edmonton Chapter of Hadassah is unknown.
