HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: In May of 1939, Executive Secretaries Incorporated, an association organized by Lucille Johnson Perkins, received its charter in San Francisco. The organization was established to encourage top secretaries and key women to work with their executives to promote their firms, to promote professional development, and to improve their community. In 1964, the first Canadian chapter was chartered in Calgary, Alberta. The chapter in Edmonton, Alberta received its charter in April 1974. In 1977, the name of the organization was changed to Executive Women International in order to reflect the international expansion of the organization, the changing roles of women in business, and the diverse careers held by its representatives. The Edmonton Chapter participated in a variety of philanthropic projects in addition to its social and business activities. The Edmonton Chapter went defunct during the 1990's but the larger parent organization has active chapters in Canada, the United States of America, and Europe.
