HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Edmonton Lodge Number (No.) 732, Independent Order of B'nai B'rith (IOBB) was formed in Edmonton, Alberta in March 1913. It was affiliated with the District Grand Lodge No. 6 in Chicago, Illinois, and later the Northwest Council of B'nai B'rith and B'nai B'rith Canada. On April 27, 1930, by action of the Constitution Grand Lodge Convention under District Grand Lodge No. 6, the words "Independent Order" were removed from the title of the organization and the Edmonton Lodge No. 732, IOBBwas known as Edmonton B'nai B'rith Lodge No. 732. The lodge opened a curling club in 1949, which closed in 1952, and was succeed by the Menorah Curling Club the same year. The purpose of the club was to reunify Jewish families in a new land, regardless of wealth, social status or country of origin, and to provide fellowship and a social outlet for its membership. The lodge was involved in fund raising and other activities in the Jewish and greater Edmonton communities and absorbed Alberta B'nai B'rith Lodge No. 2062 of Edmonton in 1956.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Mrs. Eve Pascoe, of the Jewish Historical and Archives Committee of Edmonton, deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1976 on behalf of Doctor (Dr.) David Mintz. Dr. Mintz's relationship with the Edmonton B'nai B'rith Lodge No. 732 is unknown.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of administrative records, including correspondence.
ARRANGEMENT NOTE: Some records from this fonds were removed in 1976 and sent to the Hillcrest Foundation in care of Dr. Bill Meloff.
