| HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Gavin Addison Bright was born in London, England in 1900, to Addison and Mabel Bright, an upper-middle class theatre and literary family. His godfather was the author J. M. Barrie, a family friend and business partner of Addison Bright. The family moved to The Cherry Croft, Kelowna, British Columbia in 1911 after Addison Bright was caught stealing money from Barrie and committed suicide in 1906. He was a fur trapper and trader for several years before returning to Kelowna to manage the family orchard. The fruit farm was sold in 1932, and he moved to Vancouver to attempt to find work. By 1938 he had returned to Alberta and mention is made of him again as a stage and radio actor in the 1940’s. He eventually became a physiotherapist at Norwood Auxiliary Hospital. In 1966 he married Pamela Jean Bright, who died on April 10, 1978. Gavin Bright died in Edmonton at the Jubilee Lodge Nursing Home on March 27, 1988 at the age of 87 years. |
