Allan was appointed Alberta's Provincial Architect. In this position, he designed the Alberta Legislature building. He also designed courthouses in Fort Saskatchewan, Wetaskiwin, Cardston, and Calgary. In addition, Allan designed the University of Alberta Arts Building in 1909 and Athabasca Hall in 1911.
