Father Jean-Louis Levern (1871-1960) was a Catholic missionary who lived amongst the Blackfoot and Blood Nations for the duration of his seminary career (1900-1960). He translated many works into the Blackfoot language, taught at residential schools, and was awarded an honourary doctorate in law from the University of Alberta in 1955. He was also awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal by the Catholic Church in the same year.
