History: This elevator was built a year after the CPR constructed a spur line from Acme through the valley via Carbon to Drumheller. It was always a one elevator station, although Alberta Pool Elevator Co. had planned on building a 35,000 bu elevator as competition in 1928. APE cancelled its lease with the contractor and the site was surrendered.
In 1940 an annex was built for additional storage, most probably of the temporary ballun type. A second annex, probably of the cribbed permanent type was built in 1957. Both these annexes were removed ca.
1990.
In 1967 Alberta Pacific Grain (1942) Ltd. amalgamated with Federal Grain who ran the Kirkpatrick elevator until 1972. From then until 1982 when the railroad was taken out it was run by the Alberta Wheat Pool. It was then leased from 1984 to local farmer Len Andrew, who bought the elevator in 1997.
