Includes 40 photographs, 35 diapositive slides, 4 audio cassettes, 1 negative. | | ADMINISTRATIVE | | HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Fédération des femmes canadiennes-françaises was founded in Ottawa, Ontario in 1914 by Almanda Walker-Marchand and received its official charter in 1918. The Fédération aimed to bring together women in francophone communities outside of Quebec. The Fédération's goals were to preserve French-Canadian culture, to work towards enhancing women's knowledge in all areas, such as education, the economy, and politics, and to defend the rights and well-being of women and families. The Régionale de l'Alberta was formed in January 1976 by previously established Edmonton branches, the Section Jean Patoine and Section Sainte-Anne, from Edmonton; sections in Calgary and Falher were contacted. Thérèse Lapierre-Laplante was the first regional president. In 1979, the Régionale de l'Alberta consisted of three branches: Jean Patoine (Edmonton, founded 1973), Lac Froid (Cold Lake, Grand Centre, Medley, founded 1978), and Saint-Isidore (Saint-Isidore, founded 1976), with Les Dames Chrétiennes de Girouxville as an affiliate from 1980. The second Edmonton branch, Sainte-Anne, existed from 1973 until 1978. Following major restructuring of the Fédération des femmes canadiennes-françaises into the Fédération nationals des femmes canadiennes-françaises in 1985, the Régionale de L'Alberta was dissolved April 4, 1987. | | CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | Gabrielle Baillargeon (PR1981.0343, PR1982.0103), Thérèse Laplante (PR1984.0212), and Eglande Mercier (PR1988.0110), representatives of the Fédération des femmes canadiennes-françaises, La Régionale de L'Alberta, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1988. | | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The records trace the life of the Federation from 1975 to its dissolution in 1987. Included is material from the Section Régionale Jean-Patoine d'Edmonton and the Section Sainte-Anne d'Edmonton. The record are composed of correspondence, minutes, reports, financial statements, agendas, president biographies, conference information, newspaper clippings, biographies of Alberta francophone women, the national newsletter Femmes D'Action and copies of grant applications.
