HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: A resolution was passed at the 1919 United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) Annual Convention urging locals in the various federal districts to hold conventions to discuss the ways and means of taking independent political action and selecting an independent candidate. The United Farmers of Alberta Political Association was incorporated under an Ordinance respecting Benevolent and other Societies on February 12, 1921. The primary purposes of the Association was to promote, foster and encourage independent political thought, effort and action, especially among farmers and agriculturalists in Alberta, and to hold conventions in the constituencies for discussing political questions and issues, and nominating candidates for the Federal Parliament or the Provincial Assembly. The first trustees of the Association included Henry Wise Wood, Percival Baker, Herbert Greenfield, Rice Sheppard, Snow S. Sear and Marion L. Sears. Constituency Associations were formed from locals within a particular constituency, for both the federal and provincial levels. In January 1939, UFA delegates voted to cease all political activity. The Association was to be struck from the register two months from October 30, 1943.
